Thanksgiving Morning "Race Against Hunger"

On Your Mark, Get Set…Let's Go!

Time is quickly racing towards the holidays and planning is underway for the 4th Annual Visalia Emergency Aid Council's Thanksgiving Morning "Race Against Hunger", a 5k run/2 mile family walk presented by Citibank Corporation and co-sponsored by, Bank of America and Serpa Automotive as well as many other event sponsors. The event will be staged at Garden Plaza on Main Street with registration starting at 7 a.m. and the race starting at 8: a.m. The Race Against Hunger offers families, individuals and businesses the opportunity to help make Christmas a joyous occasion for the neediest children in our area. Our goal is to make our tradition, your tradition by giving back to the community in a great way on Thanksgiving Morning. Now you can pre-register online by going to VEAC's new website at www.veac.org.

We invite you to organize a team, bring out everyone you know including your out of town family and friends to be a part of this exciting new tradition. Nothing is more rewarding than waking up on Thanksgiving morning and starting off the day with hundreds of other families, friends, and businesses who are helping Visalia Emergency Aid Council put an end to poverty in our Community and "Race Against Hunger". The Race has quickly become a feel good family friendly Thanksgiving tradition for hundreds of families. It will leave you with a wonderful sense of accomplishment knowing that you have done something great to help alleviate hunger in our Valley. This Race has doubled in size each year since 2005 and we anticipate well over 2500 participants running and walking to fight hunger in down town Visalia. This short race/walk offers something for everyone; accommodating the novice walker and challenging the experienced athlete while putting food on the tables of needy children and their families in our area.

Reyes Zaragoza, Executive Director of Visalia Emergency Aid Council, says, "Every year, we are overwhelmed with requests from people who wish to do something for the agency around the holidays, now; they can take that positive energy and channel it to 'Race Against Hunger'. I see this as an opportunity for the whole community to come together and show support for VEAC'S fight to end poverty in Tulare County." Reyes states.

Media co-sponsors include; Visalia Times-Delta, KMPH Channel 26, local Classic Rock Radio station K100/99.7 FM and KJUG who will be broadcasting live. Proceeds raised will help VEAC feed over 1100 of the neediest families in our community at Christmas by providing a Christmas meal they can prepare in the own home as well as provide a new toy for each child as well as support VEAC throughout the rest of the year. Our steering committee consists of community volunteers that have put a major amount of their time and effort into making the "Race Against Hunger" a quality event that our community has come to expect. We look forward to seeing you on Thanksgiving Morning, 2008. TOGETHER WE CAN GO THE DISTANCE TO FIGHT HUNGER!

Our services to families reach an average of 2,700 children each month.
